Rural Scene, Watercolour by J. Barclay 1911

We have for sale a lovely watercolour painting by the excellent early 20th century Birmingham artist J Barclay (Horace Hammond).
This well executed watercolour painting is typical of the artist depicting a lady carrying wood along a country path. The painting is signed and dated (1911) to the bottom right hand corner. The painting is presented in what looks like its original frame, and the backing of the frame is marked Hillside vines Surrey Downs.
The painting is 12 inches (30cm) wide and 15.75 inches (40cm) high excluding the frame and mounting and is in a very good antique condition with only minimal age related discolouration. What looks like the original gilt frame is also in a good condition although it does have an old repair to the top right corner and a missing flake of gilt in the top left hand corner.
About the Artist
J Barclay was one of the pseudonyms used by the early 20th century Birmingham artist Horace Hammond. Horace Hammond is a well known for painting English rural scenes.
