Regency Mahogany Gilt Bronze Chest Of Drawers

This is a late Georgian /Regency chest of drawers dating to around 1820 or so. It is made in mahogany with wonderful flame mahogany drawer fronts. Regency antique furniture was heavily influenced by Neoclassical design and they incorporated ormolu mounts with classical Roman, Greek and Egyptian references. This chest has marvellous ormolu mounts either side of the drawers. It has a female in classical style with the sweetest feet detail at the bottom of the plinth. The drawers all retain their original gilt bronze handles and escutcheons in a laurel leaf design. This chest even retains its original locks and comes with a key!!! I think this chest would have been a seriously expensive and important piece in its day.
The chest has been repolished over the years and has the odd bits of veneer put back in in patches to the drawer fronts. It has had repaired cracks to the top and sides as you would expect. The drawers are useable but as with all old chests expect a bit of play in the drawers. Make no mistake though, this is a seriously beautiful piece of antique furniture. Imagine this at the top of a stairs or in a well appointed bedroom. This chest oozes period quality.
The chest is 46 inches high by 46 inches wide by 21.5 inches deep.
