Rare Set of 10 Anglo Indian Rosewood Arm Chairs
RARE set of 10 ex Colonial and ex military Anglo Indian solid rosewood arm chairs of Sheraton design. These very unusual chairs originate from India and are made of some sort of heavy Indian rosewood. They are strong sturdy chairs and have been well made.
The carved backs are particularly nice and well done. I would think these were made around 1870 but could be a little earlier. Drop in leather covered seats in two different colours.
The chairs bear a label underneath hand written saying "MESS, XX LANCERS". The 20th Lancers where an Indian Regiment founded in the mid 19th century.
It is very rare to find a large set of ARM chairs of this quality. They all require a good wax up but they are all a lovely colour with rich patination and they all require the seats re-upholstering.
SIZES 21 1/2" across the front. 36" high overall
