Rare Antique French Silver Triptych ICON 1800s
French solid silver icon rare French antique triptych UNIQUE CHRISTENING GIFTS
The most wonderful antique sterling silver French catholic icon set within the original leather case. This rare, possibly unique, antique is fully hallmarked with the boar's head and the maker's mark of Lucien Langlois and signed 'Bola'. Just to one side of the signature the word 'ARGENT' - the French for silver. The silver icon is decorated with the most exquisite repoussage. The Angel Gabriel is pointing to Baby Jesus in Heaven & guiding a young girl who is praying. The work is remarkably finely detailed. Jesus is stood on a cloud, rays of light emanate from his halo and his right hand is near to the top of a child's head who is in Heaven with him. Of course this would have been such a comfort to children who had lost a sibling - a comforting devotional. The silver icon is mounted onto golden velvet within the triptych. The leather interior has a gilt floral border. Image three shows the triptych closed, the ancient gilt clasp the perfect size and design to complement the delicate and beautiful gilt decorations. The leather is exceedingly high quality and the whole piece a rare item of great thought provoking beauty. The base of the triptych is hand tooled leather which incorporates a stand. This is in very good condition for its age.

The dimensions of the triptych are 14 cm X 10 cm when closed and almost 21 cm X 10 cm when open.
