A wonderful pair of vintage marble sculptures by A. Altmann. They were made in London, England and date from the 1960’s.

They are large and heavy abstract pieces, open to interpretation. We think the light pink one resembles a shell perhaps a sea shell or a snail, the green one resembles a female form.

They rest without being fixed on solid teak plinth bases. The condition is excellent, there are just a couple of shallow grazes on the back edge of the pink one.

A. Altmann was a remarkably talented artist based in Hampstead Garden Suburb. She created paintings and sculptures, working with marble, bronze, plaster and driftwood. She was not a working artist as far as we know, she was a housewife creating art in her spare time, much of it with a strong feminist theme. We have several of her other sculptures available, seen listed under our other items for sale.
