Pair of Victorian Silver Golf Club Dessert Spoons

This is a superb quality pair of Victorian Sterling Silver Dessert Spoons with the finials bearing the crest of Northwood Golf Club in the county of Middlesex. The spoons are made by the famous Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company of London and date to 1898.
There are many examples of Golf Club spoons from the 1920s and 1930s but Victorian pieces are much rarer. Northwood Golf Club was founded in the Middlesex town of the same name in 1891, so the spoons were created not long after this, most probably for use in the club house.
1898 was the height of the Arts & Crafts movement and this pair of spoons are very much in that style, harking back to medieval spoon designs in the shape of their bowl. They would be great for any collector of golf memorabilia or for anyone interested in the Arts & Crafts style of silver.
The spoons are in very good condition with no dings and dents and only minimal surface wear as you would expect after over 120 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each spoon is 14.8cm / 5.8" long and the pair together weighs a very substantial 47.0g / 1.7oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the stem are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter "C" for 1898 and the WG over JL in a shield makers' mark for William Gibson and John Langman, the founders of the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
