This is a pair of antique Oriental dog bookends. A Chinese, soapstone decorative 'Dog of Fo' book rest, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900.

Delightfully tactile dogs with a lovely natural finish and appearance
Displaying a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout
Soapstone in good order with warm cream and grey mottled appearance
Represents a sitting Dog of Fo with the strong Oriental influence
Great detail to the face and exuberant coat and one paw raised upon a brocade ball
Broad socle base with shaped edge and dressed to the base with a leather protective pad
