Wonderful Oil on canvas Portrait of a Cleric by Isaac Wood 1689-1752.
Provenance From the collection of Peter Inskip, MBE, Trinity House, Cardington, Bedfordshire. Wood practiced for many years as a portrait painter in Lincoln`s Inn Fields, London. His portraits of ladies were considered some of the best of the time. His great patron was John Russell, 4th Duke of Bedford, for whom he painted numerous portraits of members of the Spencer and Russell families, destined for Woburn Abbey some of these were copied by Wood from other painters. At Cambridge there are portraits by Wood at Trinity College, including one of Isaac Barrow, and at Trinity Hall. There is a portrait of Archbishop William Wake by Wood at Lambeth Palace.
Hanging in a quality frame which does need a clean and restoration.
This painting is in some need of restoration too. All of this can be carried out by us in our own workshops to a high standard.
Measurements to include the frame are 31 inches x 35 inches.
