Mahogany Secretaire Abattant c.1860
Mid 19th.c. French mahogany and marble top secretaire abattant or writing bureau c.1860. Open the fall to reveal a good sized desk (height 29″) with green leather writing surface. Particularly fine fitted interior featuring a long drawer above an open shelf with mirror back panel and lovely parquetry inlaid fan decoration, five small stationery drawers plus four small secret compartments, two opening with hidden sprung catches. Original grey marble top with a moulded edge and a long frieze drawer above the bureau, three lockable drawers below plus another drawer hidden in the plinth. Beautifully figured flame mahogany veneers laid in a striking symmetrical pattern across the front sides and continued on the interior. Raised on turned bun feet. Oak back panels. Original large brass lock to the fall. Excellent colour and condition. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Keys supplied.
