Loehr Patent Perpetual Wind Pocket Watch w, 1880


Loehr Patent Perpetual Wind Pocket Watch with Power Indicator, 1880
Movement Gilt, cylinder escapement, with steel crescent form pedometer style winding weight. Fully jewelled.
Winding, setting and running correctly, including the power reserve.
Case 49 mm, silver double back case, with silver hallmarks for London, 1880, maker JN. Engine turned back, and curvette engraved as follows

Full jewelled in Rubis
Both silver case and crystal are in excellent condition.
The shaped suspension ring was patented by Loehr.
The aperture at the centre of the curvette should contain a ribbed disc to allow the hands to be set without a key. This is absent.
Dial Signed enamel dial with seconds and power reserve indication (up to 56 hours). Blued-steel hands.
Fine condition with one tiny scratch at the centre of the seconds dial, and a chip on the edge at 2 which is completely hidden by the bezel.
August Ritter von Loehr was an Austrian working in Switzerland. He took out English Patent No 1473 in April 1878, covering Automatic winding, Indicator for winding mechanisms, Suspension rings and Hand setting. Free worldwide postage.
