Large Mid-Century Silver Elephant Pin Cushion
This is a fabulous large Mid-Century German 800 Silver Elephant Pin Cushion. The elephant is exquisitely modelled with a textured body, smooth tusks and soulful eyes. The pin cushion itself is set into the back and covered in blue velvet.
The elephant was made in Germany (then West Germany) and dates to around the 1950s to 1970s. There is no makers' mark that we have been able to find so we cannot say who it was manufactured by but they were clearly very skilled silversmiths.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings, dents or damage and just the most minimal superficial surface wear. It looks as though it has had very little use and primarily been kept as a treasured possession. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The pin cushion is of substantial size, measuring 8.2cm / 3.2ins from tail to trunk, 3.3cm / 1.3ins across the body and standing 6.8cm / 2.7ins high. It weighs in at 210g / 7.4oz.
The underside of the body is stamped with the crescent moon and crown for German solid silver and 800 to show that it is 800/1000 grade purity.
Shipping in the UK is £12.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the pin cushion.
