Huge Hunting Oil Painting After John E. Ferneley

HUNTSMAN & HOUNDS IN A LANDSCAPE
-
Manner of John E. Ferneley (18 May 1782 Thrussington, Leicestershire – 1860 Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire), was an English painter who specialised in portraying hunt scenes.
-
A huge scale fine quality equestrian oil painting on canvas depicting an Huntsmen riding his white and grey bay hunter with his pack of excited hounds following on closely behind
within the panoramic hilly landscape of fields.
-
The painting bears a signature lower bottom right corner, although it’s indistinctly signed and difficult to clearly decipher.
-
A vibrant and rich coloured painting generously applied in oils and featuring the Huntsman standing out proud in his red jacket with whip in hand, followed by his pack of loyal hounds at his command and on the chase.
-
The painting is by a good competent hand and by a professional artist who understands the sport and the liveliness portrayed in this active work is so beautifully depicted in oils on canvas.
-
The natural landscape expands beyond and blends neatly with the skyline, a mixture of rough moorland and bramble softly painted to a mixture of greenery,The powder blue sky and clouds are a soft finish in paint and natural looking in a somewhat slightly over cast day.
-

in a rich gold colour with chasing.
