Harmony - Oil on Board by Singleton Jowett c.1910.
Charming little genre scene painted in oil on board by the English artist Singleton Jowett (1878-1927). Titled (with some irony) ‘Harmony’ and depicting an old country gentleman in a humble cottage interior playing a concertina in a duet with his presumably howling little dog! Very finely painted in oil with lovely domestic details. Clearly signed in the lower left hand corner. Presented in the orginal deep gilded wood and gesso frame with a gilt slip carrying the title of the painting and the artist. A small area of cracking to the surface of the paint (to the right of the dog), otherwise excellent condition.
