A fine example of Georgian craftsmanship, this rosewood sewing box dates from circa 1820 and features an intriguing decorative motif. The lid displays a rare printed image of Plato as a child, highlighted with gilt detailing—a highly unusual and collectible design element.
The edges are inlaid with alternating squares of ebony and boxwood, demonstrating the maker’s mastery of specimen woodwork. Inside, both the tray and the base are lined in handmade Italian paper, a later sympathetic restoration that complements its period charm.
