George VI Silver Sauce Boat, Viners, 1948

This is a George VI Sterling Silver Sauce Boat in a traditional style. The sauce boat is made in Sheffield by Viner's Ltd and dates to shortly after World War Two in 1948. Viner's was founded by Adolphe Viener and his sons around 1901. In the early 1920s the family name was changed from Viener to Viner and the firm started making silverware in 1926, carrying on into the late 1960s.
The sauce boat is in an elegant neo-Georgian style with a scalloped rim and standing on three legs. It is perfectly usable today and would make a stylish addition to any dining table, be it period or modern.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and only the superficial surface wear that is to be expected after over 70 years of service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The sauce boat is 14.8cm / 5.75" long from lip to handle, 9cm / 3.5" wide and stands 6.8cm / 2.6" high to the top of the handle. It weighs a very respectable 108g / 3.8oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the side of the sauce boat near the handle are well struck and very clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter "F" for 1948 and the EV makers' mark for Emile Viner of Viner's Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery Parcel Post, which includes cover for the value of the item.
