George VI Silver Napkin Ring, Broadway & Co, 1949
Here we have a George VI Sterling Silver Napkin Ring in the Art Deco style. The ring is made in Birmingham by W.I. Broadway & Co and dates to shortly after the Second World War in 1949. William Broadway founded his company in 1900 and they quickly became successful. The firm remains in business in Birmingham today.
This is a late Art Deco oval shaped napkin ring with engine turned decoration all the way round and a rolled rim at top and bottom. It has the initials "C.M." neatly engraved in the central cartouche.
Condition is extremely good with no dings or dents and the absolute minimum amount of wear. It may well have been a christening gift or similar that was treasured and rarely used. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The napkin ring is 4.9cm / 1.9" long, 3.1cm / 1.25" wide, 1.8cm / 0.75" deep and weighs a respectable 13.1g / 0.46oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks close to the rim on one end are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "Z" for 1949 and the B & Co makers' mark for W.I. Broadway & Co.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
