George V Silver Mustard Pot, J.B. Chatterley, 1932

This is an attractive George V Sterling Silver Mustard Pot with its original Blue Glass Liner. The mustard pot is bowl shaped with a scalloped top rim and stands on three paw feet. The hinged lid is stepped with a turned finial. Unusually there is no handle and no indication that it has ever had one.
The mustard pot was made in Birmingham by J.B. Chatterley & Sons and dates to 1932. John Bishop Chatterley started his firm in the 1880s becoming J.B. Chatterley & Sons Ltd in 1896. They manufactured in Birmingham and had a showroom in London's Hatton Garden district. They produced a wide range of both silverware and electroplate and remained in business into the mid-1990s.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents in the silver, no chips or cracks in the glass liner although there are a couple of bubbles low down and just the overall superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The mustard pot is 5.8cm / 2.3ins in diameter and stands 5.5cm / 2.1ins high. Without the glass liner it weighs in at a very respectable 50.1g / 1.7oz of solid Sterling Silver and all together it weighs 78.5g / 2.7oz.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the pot, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter H for 1932 and the J B C & S Ld in a shield makers' mark for J.B. Chatterley & Sons Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
