George V Silver Butter Knife, Jos. Williams, 1934
This is a neat little George V Sterling Silver Butter Knife in the classic Old English pattern with a broad scalloped edge blade. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The butter knife is made by Josiah Williams & Co of Bristol and assayed in London in 1934. As Bristol didn't have an assay office, the company was required to send its work to first Exeter and, after that office closed in 1882, to London in order to be marked. Founded around 1818, Josiah Williams & Co finally ceased trading in 1940.
Condition is good with just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after nearly 90 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The butter knife is 8.8cm / 3.5ins long and weighs in at 7.9g / 0.28oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are clear to read even though the makers' mark is a little rubbed. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the Gothic date letter t for 1934 and the JW & Co makers' mark for Josiah Williams & Co.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
