George V Briarwood Pipe with / 9ct Gold Collar, 1920

This is a well made George V Briarwood Pipe with a 9ct Gold collar. The pipe has an egg shaped bowl and horizontal stem of briarwood which is joined to the black mouthpiece by the 9ct gold collar.
The pipe was made in Britain for tobacconists Hall & Fitzgerald and dates to 1920. The company was founded in the 1870s by William Hall and Edward Davies in Bristol. Fitzgerald was presumably a replacement for Davies at some point. They were wholesalers of pipes and smoking accessories and registered gold and silver marks in London, Birmingham and Chester, with Birmingham being the one most commonly seen. The firm ceased trading in 1982.
The pipe has definitely been used with some wear around the end of the mouthpiece and tobacco residue in the bowl but remains an attractive item. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Externally, the bowl is 3cm / 1.2ins wide and 4cm / 1.5ins high and overall the pipe is 11.7cm / 4.6ins long. It weighs 32.8g / 1.1oz.
The hallmarks on the gold collar are well struck and clear to read. They show the 9 and .375 marks for 9ct gold, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter v for 1920 and the H & F sponsors' mark for Hall & Fitzgerald.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
