George III Silver Table Spoon, London, 1811

This is a top quality George III Sterling Silver Table Spoon, double struck in the Fiddle & Thread pattern. The Table Spoon is made in London in a very heavy gauge of silver by silversmiths Richard Crossley & George Smith and dates to 1811. Richard Crossley & George Smith were specialist London spoonmakers whose brief partnership lasted just 5 years from 1807 to 1812 but managed to produce some very high quality flatware. There is a double crest of an owl and an eagle at the top of the stem, which is now a little rubbed. The hallmarks on the underside of the stem are well struck and crisp and clear to read.
The Table Spoon is in very good condition with no dings or dents and only a minimal amount of wear & tear, such as you would expect of an item that is 209 years old. It is entirely suitable for modern use or would make a great addition to any collection. Please make sure you look at all the photos.
The spoon is 21.8cm long and weighs a very substantial 87.2g of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter "Q" for 1811, the George III duty mark and the RC over GS makers' mark for Richard Crossley & George Smith.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
