We are pleased to offer for sale this large oil by the artist FRANCIS MUSCHAMP, who has signed the painting F. Muschamp in the lower left hand corner and dated it 1880. The painting depicts a slightly stormy scene of a couple of small waterfalls on a narrow fast flowing river, between rocky, wooded banks. This is possibly a scene in Wales, a favourite location for the artist.

FRANCIS MUSCHAMP, who flourished 1865-1885, was a London landscape artist, who lived at 52 Fitzroy Road, Regents Park, London. This artist should not be confused, as many of the auction houses and results sites do, with the genre painter F. Sydney Muschamp, who also lived in London and may be a relative, although biographies state that his father was a portrait painter.

FRANCIS MUSCHAMP exhibited 17 paintings at Suffolk Street, 3 at the British Institution, and 10 paintings at the Royal Hibernian Academy.
