Fine Sheraton period Secretaire Cabinet

A Very Fine Geo III Sheraton period Mahogany Secretaire Cabinet, inlaid with Satinwood & Purpleheart, with a narrow Kingwood crossbanding, the upper case with adjustable shelving behind silk pleated oval panel doors above a short bank of drawers, the centre one fitted. The lower case has a neat Satinwood interior comprising a cupboard, drawers and pigeon holes, with a baized writing surface, and below is a further bank of drawers behind a pair of doors, all raised on tapered legs with collars.
This small wirting cabinet, both useful and decorative, bears comparison with a group of secretaire cabinets labelled by George Seddon of Dover Street and George Simson of St Paul's Churchyard, London. Both produced finely detailed secretaires having elements in common with the present example. Further comparison can be made with the well known cabinets retailed by the Thomas Weeks Museum in Tichborne Street, London, which have been attributed either to Seddon or Simson by the late Christopher Gilbert.
