Fijian Gunstock War Club,c1920
Fine early 20th century Fijian war club,c1920. Of typical spurred or gunstock type variants of this club are used for cutting, for ceremonial/dancing purposes and of course as war clubs. This example is a good weight,0.4kg,with traditional inscribed decoration, including a number of carved notches which traditionally would indicate number of kills/victims. Although undoubtedly an old example this was probably an early tourist piece and someone has carved 'Bala Fiji' into it which is a traditional greeting akin to hallo/good health etc. The wood has taken on great colour/patina and overall condition is good with no obvious issues. Please refer to the detailed photographs and feel free to contact me if you would like to view the item or have any questions.

Size: 60 cm tall/long x 12cm wide x 3cm deep, weight 0.4kg.
