Edwardian Silver Sovereign Case, Birmingham, 1909

This is a top quality Edwardian Sterling Silver Sovereign Case with a spring mounted mechanism. The coin case is made by the Dennison Watch Case Company in Birmingham and dates to 1909. Aaron Lufkin Dennison was born in the USA in 1812 and started his business in Massachusetts in 1853 before later starting a company in Birmingham, England in 1876. His son Franklin continued the firm after his death and they remained in business into the 1960s.
The sovereign case is plain silver with just engine turned decoration on the top of the spring mechanism. All parts of the case are hallmarked. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind. It would make a lovely gift or a great addition to a collection.
Condition is very good with just one tiny ding on the underside and the superficial surface wear you would expect after over 110 years. The lock mechanism works perfectly as does the spring loaded coin holder and the hinge opens smoothly. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The sovereign case is 3cm / 1.1" in diameter and 4.7cm / 1.8" to the top of the ring. It weighs 20.2g / 0.71oz.
The hallmarks on the inside of the lid are crisp and very clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "k" for 1909 and the A.L.D makers mark for Aaron Lufkin Dennison, founder of the Dennison Watch Case Co.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the item.
