Edwardian Silver Butter Knife, Henry Matthews 1904

This is a very elegant Edwardian Sterling Silver Butter Knife with an ornate stem. The blade is in the classic scimitar shape, whilst the stem is ribbed along its length culminating in a finial featuring flowers and foliage. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The butter knife is made in Birmingham by noted silversmith Henry Matthews and dates to 1904. Matthews was in business in Birmingham's famous Jewellery Quarter from the early 1890s to the early 1930s and made a wide range of good quality silverware.
Condition is extremely good with no dings, dents or damage and only the most minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 115 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The butter knife is 13.9cm / 5.5ins long and weighs a respectable 12.3g / 0.43oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the blade are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter e for 1904 and the H M makers' mark for Henry Matthews.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
