Edwardian Silver Bowl, James Dixon, Sheffield 1909

This is a very stylish round Edwardian Sterling Silver Bowl. The bowl stands on a low pedestal foot, has parallel lines decorating the body of the bowl and a gadrooned rim. Although Edwardian in date it has design elements that definitely look forward to the Deco era that would come in the 1920s and 1930s.
The bowl is made in Sheffield by renowned silversmiths James Dixon & Sons and dates to 1909. Founded as Dixon & Smith around 1806, they became James Dixon & Son in 1823, Sons in 1835 and remained in business well into the 1980s.
Condition is very good with just a couple of very slight dents near the hallmark on the side of the body and the regular superficial wear that you would expect after over 110 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The bowl is of a good size, measuring 12.3cm / 4.8ins in diameter and standing 6.5cm / 2.5ins high. It weighs in at a very substantial 183.9g / 6.5oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the side of the bowl are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter r for 1909 and the J.D & S makers' mark for James Dixon & Sons.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the bowl.
