Crumlin Viaduct Opening Medal Token 1857
This metal medal was made to commemorate the opening of the Crumlin Viaduct in 1857. The front has a view of the viaduct with the words 'Newport, Abergavenny & Hereford Railway Extension to Taff Vale' above and 'Crumlin Viaduct' below. The reverse of the medal states the following: 'Messrs. Liddle & Gordon are the engineers of the railway. Mr T.W. Kennard Engineer & Contractor for the Viaduct. This Viaduct is entirely of iron and is 200 feet high, and one third of a mile in length. First column in December 1833 by Lady Isabella Fitzmaurice. Opened on 1st June 1857.' There is a pierced hole at the top of the medal.
Condition: Overall in good condition with some wear consistent with age and use. It is overall tarnished and is worn and dented around the edges. The relief work on the front has some wear. The pierced hole at the top is a little misshapen.
