We are pleased to offer for sale this lovely Continental School oil on canvas which is, unfortunately, unsigned. The painting depicts a shepherd resting on a grassy knoll, with his dog beside him, surrounded by his flock. He is drinking from a vessel and his bag and stick lay on the ground in front of him. He appesr to be wearing clogs. The landscape is flat and, judging from the sky, the sun is setting. It is possibly Dutch in origin.

The painting has a very ethereal, almost biblical quality about it. Please see the photographs.

The painting is framed in a superb, period, ornate gilded frame and is ready to hang.

Condition Very good. There are no repairs to the canvas which is clean and taut. There is no craquelure or stretcher marks. The frame is in very good condition commensurate with age.
