We are delighted to offer for sale this original 1906 Patek Philippe 18ct gold pocket watch with archive extract detailing the movement and origins of the piece which was retailed through the world famous and extremely prestigious Shreve Crump & Low Boston est 1796 and gifted in 1908 to one Pierpont Langley Stackpole Distinguished Service Medal winner as Lieutenant Colonel Field Artillery, United States of America.

Where to begin, as you can see from the screen shot included, the current retail price on an open face 18ct gold pocket watch with Patek Philippe is £32,790 gbp. This watch really is the finest quality and has every original hallmark you could possibly hope to find.

The style of the 18ct gold case is open faced, Bassine style, it is serial number 247.504 The dial is Enamel with Breguet numerals and subsidiary second’s hand. This watch was made in 1906 and sold in August 26th 1907. The movement is fully signed as well, it is movement number 139.753 which is an 18”’ lever escapement.

The dial is signed Patek Philippe & Co Geneve, the backside of the case has the initials P.L.S, the inside of the outer case is fully hallmarked PPCo FOR Patek Philippe, 18kts, the Patek Rosette is stamped and the sideways facing Queens head for the hallmark, lastly the serial number. The next backing plate which covers the movement is wonderfully signed, around the top it says No 139.753 for the movement, MADE FOR SHREVE, CRUMP & LOW Co BOSTON for the retailers, along the bottom it reads BY PATEK PHILIPPE & Co GENEVE. In the middle you have the personalised message of “Pierpont Langley Stackpole from Mark and Agnes February 16 1908”

Pierpont Langley Stackpole, American lawyer Awarded Distinguished Service Medal (United States) Officier Etoile Noir du Benin (France) Officier Ordre de la Couronne (Belgium). Served as lieutenant colonel Field Artillery, United States of America.

Inside we find a wonderfully decorative movement signed Shrene Crump & Low Co Boston on one plate and Patek Philippe & Co No 139753 Geneve Suisse on the other plate. There is also a patent stamp inscribed Pat Jan 13 1891

Well there you have it! A pretty significant find, with a military history ownership, some original papers and with a prestigious Boston retailers mark

Condition wise the watch was running well, I have however sent it off with Patek Philippe for a full service to make sure its running perfectly for the new owner
