A stunning burr walnut Victorian pop up piano top harlequin davenport. This is the rolls royce of davenports. It has lovely warm burr veneers. The inside has a slide out action with rising easel slope with original leather surface. There is a pen tray with complimentary inkwell all housed behind a piano shaped fall. There are two small interior drawers with wooden knobs, the right hand drawer houses the trigger mechanism for the pop up action.
To the front there are two well carved cabriole support legs. The base has it's original swivel castors housed in a turned walnut cup. To the right are four fine dovetailed drawers again with their original wooden knobs. To the left hand side there are four symmetrical dummy drawers with identical knobs. The back is of a paneled form again with nice walnut veneer.
The pop up section has four pigeon hole sections with fretted arcadian decoration. The centre has three small trinket drawers, this is all topped off with a lovely quality brass pierced gallery rail.
This is a top quality piece of Victorian antique furniture originally made for Captain Davenport ordered from renowned cabinet makers Gillows of Lancaster.
