Antique Swiss full hunter pocket watch, Durham
An antique Swiss full hunter pocket watch.
The watch has a 15-jewel Swiss stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement has an attractive damascened finish, a sign of a good quality piece. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch itself measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is 10 carat gold and was made by the Star Watch Case Company of Michigan. The case has engine turned detail to both the front and the back of the case, and there is also a vacant cartouche to the front. The case is in good condition with just light marking from use, nothing detrimental at all.
The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. Inside the cover, there is an inscription with the name and address of a previous owner of the watch, George Hammond, 13 Mayfield Terrace, Cockfield Durham, March 18th 1915. George was born in 1893 and he moved with his parents and siblings to Mayfield Terrace in Cockfield in 1911 (a property that is still there today).
The watch has an acrylic lens. Quite often original broken glass lenses were replaced with acrylic lenses which are more durable.
The white enamel dial has a faint hairline crack running from the centre towards number 9. The hands have different finishes suggesting that at least one is a later replacement.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE.
