Antique Silver Galonne Pocket Watch
Antique silver galonne pocket watch.
The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner cover which has details of the movement, ‘Ancre 15 rubis, levées visible (anchor escapement with visible plates) double plateau’. There are also a few numbers scratched in to this inner cover.
The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The outer case is silver and there are the remains of a rose gold wash around the edge. This style of watch is known as galonne, and was popular in the Scandinavian countries in the early 1900s. The case is in good condition, just a small knocks to the side.
The glass lens is in lovely condition.
The dial is signed with the name of the original Swedish retailer, J Torstensson, Kristianstad. Original ornate hands, part of the galonne style of watch, beautiful ornate numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers. There is a faint hairline crack across the centre, approximately 2cm long, but quite difficult to see with the naked eye.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
