Antique Rotherhams silver pocket watch 1883.

Antique Rotherhams silver pocket watch 1883.
The watch has a signed key-wound movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner fitted cover.
The watch measures 49.6mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the case backs for London 1883 together with a case maker's mark for John Rotherham. The case has a couple of "dings" to the outer edge and some mild bruising to the back but overall it is in nice condition for an 1880s piece.
The watch glass is in lovely condition.
The white enamel dial is signed with the Rotherhams name and logo. It is in good condition, just one faint hairline between the sub seconds dial and the bottom, but not very noticeable at all to the naked eye.
The watch has gold coloured hands.
Rotherhams evolved from S Vale who were established in 1747. To begin with, the company bought in ebauché (or blank movements) but in the latter part of the 19th Century they began to manufacture their own movements. By the late 1880s, they were considered to be an important Coventry watch manufacturer producing 100 units a week.
The company continued to grow and it is estimated that they manufactured some 600,000 movements between 1880 and 1930. While not as prolific as some of the big Swiss and American factories, such as Waltham who produced 26 million in the same period, they were still considered to be among the best English “volume” maker.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE.

Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
