A rare 19th century adjustable music/reading stand. Designed to sit on a table, it unfolds on 2 separate ratchets to go from flat to a higher position. It is finely made from rosewood, with gilded brass hinges and raised on small bun feet. The original surface means this stand shows the beautiful colour and grain that undisturbed antique rosewood achieves. It retains the small brass fittings that once held removable candle sconces. Circa 1840
