This chest would have been commissioned by a wealthy property owner who had a difficult staircase.
The cabinetmaker of high repute would have been instructed to make a high quality chest of draers that splits in 2 to enable it to easily go up a difficult stairway.
Having magnificent flame mahogany to the drawer fronts and then the highly fashionable turned mahogany feet and knob handles.
A magnifcent chest of drawers with tremendous storage that also is a statement piece made circa 1840.
