A very good quality, Large, Antique, Victorian English Silver Gilt Box made in Asprey of London and dating from c1886.
The inside lip of the base is hallmarked with the maker's mark "CA/CA", for Charles Asprey & Charles Asprey Junior, the Monarch's Head duty mark, the Lion Passant Sterling Silver mark, the Leopard's Head London town mark and date letter "L" for 1886/87. The inside of the lid with the maker's mark, the Lion Passant Sterling Silver mark and date letter.
The lid with an engraved crest to the centre. The base stamped Asprey, 166 Bond St.
The exterior of the box with lovely decorative engine turned engraving to all the sides.
The box measures 75mm x 33mm x 17mm. The weight is 77.3g.
