Antique 17th century Italian religious painting
Antique Italian painting from the mid-17th century. Oil on canvas artwork with a religious theme, the Risen Christ, of excellent pictorial quality. A small-scale painting, ideal for antique dealers and collectors of ancient sacred art. The painting depicts Christ with the cross at the center of the scene, a landscape with small architectural features in the background. The blood of the Son of God flows from his hand into a golden chalice on the ground.
On the sides, above the clouds, two figures of saints embrace the symbols of Jesus' passion (see photo). Above the cross is a representation of the Holy Spirit, and even higher up, God appears surrounded by cherubs and a globe in his left hand (see photo). This painting has undergone expert conservative restoration, including the restoration of small areas of color, relining, and replacement of the stretcher (see photo). The artwork has long been attributed to Giovanni Battista Casone (1609-1681), a Genoese painter and student of Domenico Fiasella.
The painting currently does not come with an art historical expertise, which can be requested at the time of purchase (the cost of the service is not included in the price contact us for a quote). The painting is adorned with a modern carved and gilded frame with some signs of wear. Overall, the painting is in good condition. Internal size: H 47 x W 34 cm.
