Aesthetic Movement Lt. Oak Aneroid Wall Barometer
We are offering for sale this rather unusual Aesthetic Movement Light Oak Aneroid Barometer.Thermometer. The case with incised and carved lunette and rosette decoration with foliate carved finial to the top. The Barometer having white dial in perfect condition with brass bezel and bevelled glass. The Thermometer held by two metal clips onto white dial with Fahrenheit & Centrigade graduations, inside glazed oak box. There are circular columns each side of the Barometer with ball finials. Underneath the Barometer is a half arch decorated with trefoils. The original brass hanging plate is in situ.
The Aesthetic Movement in Britain (1860 – 1900) aimed to escape the ugliness and materialism of the Industrial Age, by focusing instead on producing art that was beautiful rather than having a deeper meaning – 'Art for Art's sake'. The artists and designers in this 'cult of beauty' crafted some of the most sophisticated and sensuously beautiful artworks of the Western tradition and in the process remade the domestic world of the British middle-classes.

Depth: 2 1/8" - 5.4cm
Condition: Very good. There is some age related dirt inside the thermometer glazing and a small piece of oak missing from one of the trefoils adorning the half arch at the bottom.
