2 x Silver Pepper Shakers, Deakin & Francis, 1918

This is a distinguished looking cased pair of George V Sterling Silver Pepper Shakers. The shakers stand on square bases with bulbous lower bodies tapering up to the shaker lids which have diamond shaped finials. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The pepper shakers are made in Birmingham by top quality silversmiths Deakin & Francis and date to the end of the First World War in 1918. With a history dating back to 1786, the company remains active under the control of the Deakin family to this day. They produced a wide range of high end silver which was supplied to many of the country's top department stores and silver stores.
Whilst they have clearly been used, condition is generally good with just a couple of small bruises to the lower bodies of the shakers. These may have been caused by getting them in and out of the case as it is quite a tight fit. One diamond finial has a slight lean to it but this could be straightened. The outside of the box is a little scuffed but the hinges and clasp are in good working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The pepper shakers stand 9cm / 3.5ins high and are 3.2cm / 1.2ins square at their widest point. The pair together, unboxed, weighs in at a substantial 95.1g / 3.3oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the bases are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter t for 1918 and the D & F in conjoined circles makers' mark for Deakin & Francis.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the pepper shakers.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
