19th Century Rosewood Colonial Plantation Chair
Rare find.
Made of solid Indian Rosewood, this Planter's chair is large, streamlined and majestic. As comfortable as it is handsome with its beautiful carvings. Dated circa 1880.
A handsome 19th century Colonial rosewood plantation chair with extended arm/leg rests.
In a really wonderful antique condition, this Anglo-Indian chair features beautifully hand-carved friezes on the top and front rail, depicting flowers and leaves, with turned acanthus hand-carved legs. The cane work is in perfect condition.
The best Anglo-Indian antique furniture was commissioned by British officials during the Raj and was often beautifully carved or inlaid solid teak or Indian rosewood. This fabulous Plantation chair dating from c. 1880 is a fine example of such Indian craftsmanship with the beautifully detailed carvings - featuring floral and foliage on the friezes and turned acanthus carved legs.
