1920s Coventry Astral half hunter pocket watch
1920s Coventry Astral half hunter pocket watch from H Williamson.
The watch has a seven jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the Astral name and it has a patent number of 21180 which dates back to 1913 and relates to the mounting of winding wheels in keyless watches. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch measures 50.3mm diameter excluding the winding stem and loop. The case is gold plated and is the Star model made by Dennison Watch Case Company, a prolific manufacturer of watch cases for various watch companies.
The watch has a small lens to the front which is surrounded by dark blue enamel filled Roman numerals.
The case has minor surface marking / wear from use and a couple of small "dings" to the back.
The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. Inside, there is a glass lens which is in nice condition.
The white enamel dial is signed Coventry Astral and is in nice condition.
The watch has its original blued steel hands.
Henry Williamson founded his business in 1865 and became an increasingly successful and important wholesaler and retailer. The business increased in size as they acquired the English business of Charles Hutton Errington of Coventry in 1895 and the remnants of the English Watch Company in 1897. H Williamson's company was taken over by Smiths in the early 1930s.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
