18th C Bottom Marked Silver Rat Tail tablespoon
Here we have sale a very unusual mid 18th Century bottom marked George II/III period hallmarked silver large serving or tablespoons in the ever popular bright Old English pattern but unusually with a rat tail, the spoon is monogrammed with the letter N (rubbed) and the faint remains of what appears to be a crest on the reverse.
Silversmith: Unknown, marks are stretched and only partially visible, what appears to be the letter R is viable
Assay office: London (please see photos).
Year of manufacture: Circa 1760
Length: 21 cm
Length of bowl: 8 cm
Width of bowl: 5 cm
Weight: 65 grams
Condition report: In overall very good condition for its age of approximately 260 years, slight wear to the bowl, the hallmarks are only partially legible (a common issue with bottom marked flatware), age related surface scratches, pitting, tarnish marks and wear to the monogrammed initials.
This Georgian serving spoon with its fine bright cut decoration would make an excellent Christmas or Birthday present or a treat for yourself over lock-down.
