18CT Gold Duplex Pocket Watch, Litherland Davies


A fine and rare, antique, Victorian English, 18CT Gold Pocket Watch made by Litherland Davies & Co. of Liverpool and dating from c1854.
Litherland Davies & Co, founded by Peter Litherland are important English makers, known for the manufacture of marine chronometers.
The 18CT Gold case is hallmarked with the maker's mark "JCW", the "crown" and "18" for 18 carat gold, the Leopard's Head London town mark and date letter for 1854/55. The case also has the serial number 21452 to match the movement, proving both are original and have been together since new.
The rear of the case has engine turned engraving and a shield shaped central cartouche.
The white enamel dial has the hours in Roman numerals and is signed by the maker "Litherland Davies & Co, Liverpool".
The jewelled duplex movement is signed by the maker "Litherland Davies & Co, Liverpool" alongside the serial number 21,452. It is key wound and set with the key provided.
It measures 49mm in diameter. The weight is 95.8g
