Mid-Century Silver Tastevin, Anthony G. Elson 1976
Here we have a wonderfully stylish Elizabeth II Sterling Silver Tastevin or Wine Taster by renowned modern silversmith Anthony Gordon Elson. The tastevin is in the classic Bordeaux style of a smooth shallow cup. The handle however is a stunning modern sculpture of gnarled wood. The initials G.S.W. are neatly engraved on one side of the taster.
This is a very high quality piece in a good gauge of silver. Anthony Gordon Elson was born in Worthing in 1935. He began his career working for William Comyns Ltd and then bought Blunt & Wray a specialist ecclesiastical silver manufacturer. Later he set up the Silversmith\'s Workshop, based first in Clerkenwell in London and then later in Sussex and produced designs for the likes of Garrard & Co. This tastevin dates to 1976.
Condition is extremely good with no dings or dents and only the most minimal surface wear that has to be expected after nearly 50 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The tastevin is 9cm / 3.5ins in diameter and 12cm / 4.75ins from rim to handle. It is 4cm / 1.6ins high to the top of the handle. It weighs a very substantial 121.7g / 4.29oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the front of the tastevin are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard\'s head assay mark for London, the date letter \"B\" for 1976 and the A.G.E makers\' mark for Anthony Gordon Elson.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery Parcel Post, which includes cover for the value of the tastevin.
Overseas customers please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
